Carrot Ironfounderson

Terry Pratchett's DISCWORLD books

Carrot Ironfounderson is the most adorable cop you'd ever find anywhere. He is captain in Ankh Morpork's Nightwatch, which is their police force of sorts.

He's a six-and-a-half-foot tall dwarf (hey, he was adopted), and he left home to find his fortune when his father realized to his dismay that his freakishly tall son was too tall to work in the mines with other dwarves. So he sent him on his way with a mysterious sword that was with the infant when they found him. (On his way, he was also given a codpiece, and told to use it to protect his vitals if things got rough. So Carrot put it on his head!)

Carrot is a philanthropist, a born leader, and a really, really good guy. He is brutally honest, a total gentleman—so what if the woman he's seeing is a werewolf?—and a dedicated Watchman.

Oh, but he has a secret. Well, technically it's not a secret as he doesn't know it. The thing is, he is supposed to be king! He is the real heir to the throne of Ankh Morpork, and bears a striking resemblance to the royal family. He's actually pulled a sword out of stone and all that required by mythology to prove his royal descent, but Carrot would have a heart-attack if you mentioned it to him. He just thinks he is a simple dwarf, and I think he dreams of a future with his werewolf colleague.
